Benthic studies often combine sidescan sonar, video transects, dropcams and baited cams to characterize the benthic habitat over large areas. But optical seabed surveys require a large vessel and work-class ROV spread: expensive to mobilize, which limits how often and at what scale studies can be done. Most research programs end up constrained by budget, leaving scientific ambition unsatisfied.

The Scout makes large-area, repeatable surveys affordable from a small vessel or from shore. The data is detailed enough to answer most research questions at scale, and works alongside targeted close-up tools like a dropcam or ROV where specimen-level detail is needed. The Scout fills the gap between detail and scale.

AI-assisted processing has changed what is possible in environmental consenting surveys. But the bottleneck has shifted from processing capacity to input quality. Automated habitat classification, change detection, and trend analysis are only as reliable as the consistency of the data going in. Getting full value from AI-assisted processing depends on data acquisition that is consistent by design.

The Scout runs a fixed spatial mission plan at consistent altitude, speed, and lighting. Monitoring from different dates align automatically, so change detection and trend analysis run on inputs that match without manual preparation. The georeferenced 3D output feeds directly into GIS and standard analysis tools, and the survey plan is fully documented and repeatable to metre-level accuracy.

Visual inspection of pipelines, cable routes, and scour protection typically requires a dedicated ROV spread. In areas with significant tidal current, that means a DP-capable vessel, a workclass ROV, and the crew to operate it. That is a substantial mobilisation for what is often a visual inspection pass, and it occupies vessel space and budget that could go toward more complex work.

The Scout ships via standard air and road cargo and deploys from a vessel of opportunity or crew transfer vessel with two operators from the existing crew. It runs autonomously on a pre-set inspection track while the rest of the team continues other tasks, so the ROV spread can be directed toward work that genuinely requires it, or left off the mobilisation entirely.
